Ever had an assertion with friends about the lyrics to a song? If you’re people, the theme was settled by looking up the lyrics internet.
But was it settled? Searching for lyrics internet opens up a potential minefield!
First there’s the legality of the lyric site sites. Song lyrics are copyrighted content, and by the strict letter of the law, unauthorised reproduction, unless deemed “fair use”, isn’t permitted. But what is fair use?
Is fair use the cataloging and searching of an artists entire repertoire of song lyrics? It’s a grey area. On the 1 hand it’s clear copyright is becoming violated, however, is it not also violated when you play a long with your favourite song as it plays on the communicate? Copyright violations aren’t so black and white.
Second, there’s the accuracy of the lyrics. Often to discover many transcriptions of the lyrics to the same song internet, that render specific phrases completely differently and customize meaning of the songs.
Third, if you’ve ever searched for lyrics through Google, you’ll have no question noticed most popular lyrics sites are inundated with ads and popups. Many pages take a truly long time to load because of the ads! Its annoying to fair.
But hunt, there are some alternate sites that don’t inundate the user with ads, have more accurate transcriptions, and cut legality issue by hosting past the USA. Turns out its just in the US that’s banned to host a site containing song lyrics, and, for matter, banned to play a long with your favourite song in some public places. Not that that stops either webmasters nor individuals from doing either.
